I want to help

Thanks to the strong support of our community, we purchased our new home at 318 South Atherton! As of September 2023, we are fully moved into our renovated and permanent shelter!
Our work is supported by caring community members who volunteer to spend time with our guests, cook meals for those staying with us, and donate items that make our guests feel at home.

About Out of the Cold

Out of the Cold: Centre County is a low-barrier shelter that has staff working 24/7. Our day shelter is open to the public and community from 8am-8pm. Overnight, we provide shelter to a limited number of individuals who need are currently un-housed. During the 2022-2023 season, 17 congregations helped to provide overnight shelter for 175 guests.

Our overnight guests are provided with a bed to sleep in every night. The day shelter is open for everyone to enjoy a hot shower, do their laundry, and have a meal. While at the shelter guests are served breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Each week our case managers meet with our guests for assistance acquiring housing and other supportive services.
Vision
Out of the Cold will care for the unsheltered in Centre County, working toward a day when homelessness is a rare, brief, and one time event.

Mission
Out of the Cold is a community supported organization that answers the call to serve those experiencing homelessness in our community by providing shelter, food, and support services during the transition to permanent housing.
